Red Album Review

I didn't know what to expect from the Game's new album, the Red Album. But after listening to every song, I decided to write a pretty detailed review all of the 19 tracks (including bonus tracks, but excluding the skits). I will also provide a ranking out of a 100 (remember, this is my opinion, you might love the song I hate and vice versa) Here's what I think about it:

Red Nation - This is probably the best song on the album. With a sample from Kernkraft 400 by Zombie Nation, this song has a more electronic feel to it, but it still keeps the feel of a real, early 2000’s hip-hop song. The Game does really good lyrically too. The line that stands out the most is,” Niggas'll trade they soul to be Drake or J. Cole. Live and die for this shit, word to Tupac Shakur's halo”. That’s the Game I know from the Documentary and the Doctor’s Advocate.  Also, Lil’ Wayne’s part was pretty good too. It was smart that he only sang the chorus. (Lil’ Wayne almost always messes up a good song when he’s given a full verse). Excellent song. 87/100

The City - This song has been getting a lot of deserved hype. Also, this should put up-and-coming Compton rapper, Kendrick Lamar. Both the Game and Kendrick Lamar do their thing lyrically and the beat is spectacular. Kendrick Lamar also does really good on the chorus. Amazing song. 84/100

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
- I love the beat on this song. It immediately sets the mood for the song. The Game also raps to perfection. Good flow, great lyrics, pretty much what we expect from the Game. There is only one problem, it finishes to early at about 2 and a half minutes. 78/100

Mama Knows - Another amazing beat. Every artist needs a song honoring their Mom, and this is one of the better ones. It has a little more of a sad, regretful vibe to it, but it is still kind of uplifting in a weird way. The Red Album is shaping up to be a great piece of work. 79/100

Pot of Gold - Chris Brown does really good work on the chorus, and the Game has some good lyrics too. But I felt that there was too much Chris Brown, and too little of the Game. The song is also surprisingly easy-listening and less hard-hitting compared to most of the Game’s other songs. Great song. 80/100

Speakers on Blast - The first line sums it all up : It's not usual, the Game be, all up on some South shit." You immediately feel the heavy-hitting bass you usually find on Bay Area and Southern songs. And who better to have featured than E-40 and Big Boi. This is the perfect song to blast while cruising in a car. 78/100

Drug Test - This is the ultimate West Coast reunion, with The Game, Dr Dre, and even Snoop Dogg on the song. But "Drug Test" falls really short. You would expect more, but it just doesn't deliver. It's still an okay song though. 64/100

Ricky - This song hits you at once. It includes a sample from Boyz n the Hood, and that saxophone is excellent. The song has an unusual free-flowing format, but it sounds great. Great song. 74/100

Heavy Artillery -In my opinion, Rick Ross is one of the most overrated rappers nowadays. Great beat, but for some reason it gets pretty annoying after a while. The song is pretty stale, but it has some good points. 60/100

Paramedics - Young Jeezy  is a pretty annoying rapper (at least that's my opinion). The song could of been good, but it feels as if half of the lyrics was mumbled. When The Game comes on, he breathes some life into it, but it's too little too late. Could have achieved more. 64/100

Hello - The song features Lloyd, who sings the hooks and provides some background vocals. But he has an extremely high pitched voice which can get really annoying, really fast. Other than that, the song was average. 54/100

All the Way Gone - The R.E.D. Album has too much love songs. But at least the song is pretty good. The song features Mario, who does a really good job on the hook, and Wale, who is alright. All in all, it's a pretty good song. 67/100

Keep checking back, I'm not yet finished with the review.
